GEOLOGIES OF MAKING: A study of Flaking Sandstone through paper, wood, analog, and digital mediums.
1: The project began with paper modeling and sketches aimed to distill the essence of the assigned geology into an organized, geometric program.
2: This exploration was deepened by creating wooden models of varying sizes (using only a band saw and glue.) These physical models were supplemented with analog and digital (Rhino) modeling. This step introduced true 3D rendering and aimed to develop proto-programmatic, spatial concepts. See A2 pinup below, featuring a selection of pieces from parts 1 and 2.
3: Utilizing all progress work, the project culminated in the design of a pavilion representing our geologies and their natural surroundings. It is the first architectural structure we have designed, building on abstract foundations to turn our geologies into lived spaces.
